Installation, Cut out sand paper letters, 2013

Normal, is a piece made out of sandpaper cut out letters in Calibri italic font.

The word 'normal' has multiple meaning, connotations and usages in various contexts, in different research fields. The artist’s starting point is the unbearable (sometimes invisible) supression that an individual strongly feels on a daily basis. The current system forces the individual to obey the general consensus, willingly or not. Life can be seen as a total process of being subject to the daily erosion of the personality of the individual. Becoming 'normal' has a cost to pay. There is nothing liberating about it.
